{"id":513,"date":"2007-07-20T13:34:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-20T13:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zaakistan.com\/wordpress\/?p=513"},"modified":"2007-07-20T13:34:00","modified_gmt":"2007-07-20T13:34:00","slug":"visitors-crawlers-and-geography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zaakistan.com\/dir\/index.php\/2007\/07\/20\/visitors-crawlers-and-geography\/","title":{"rendered":"Visitors, Crawlers, and Geography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/zaakistan.com\/photos\/blog3\/webstats.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>On occasion I like to get an idea of how many people visit <a href=\"http:\/\/zaakistan.com\/\">my website<\/a> and what pages are visited most often. <a href=\"http:\/\/zaakistan.com\/webalizer\/index.html\">The stats<\/a> give me an idea of which days there was the most traffic (like last Sunday after I sent an email to family and friends that I had posted a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zaakistan.com\/photos\/recent2007summer\/Page3.html\">bunch of photos<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Two things don&#8217;t work too well with these stats:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>pictures that I post on my blog monopolize the stats for most visited URLs because my blog gets more traffic than my website and the photos are stored on my website\n<li>75% of the surfing on my site comes from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Webcrawlers\">Web Crawlers<\/a><\/ul>\n<p>Now, I know the web crawlers do a service, they allow people to find my site based on searches, like these ones: <i>her ankle, tan lines, zaakistan.com, abbadie de saint-castin, amber isaguirre, amber pacific, amber tan, amber hay, anne van nostrand, ben pyper universe, bronze cross, exerpts from chicken soup for the teenage soul, fireweed souvenirs, madokawondo<\/i><\/p>\n<p>I added <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.clustrmaps.com\/counter\/maps.php?url=http:\/\/zaakistan.com\/indexframeset.html\">ClustrMaps<\/a> to my website a couple months ago. I like this one because it localizes where people are visiting my site from. For instance, I know now that my relatives do indeed visit my site from Vancouver, central Alberta, Montreal, New Brunswick, Florida, and China. I can also assume that the dozens of visitors from the midwestern USA are actual web crawlers. Then there are the international visitors like us in Guatemala, friends in South Africa (hi <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hopeworks.ca\/\">Waldrons<\/a>), Romania (hi <a href=\"http:\/\/romanianchels.blogspot.com\/\">Chels<\/a>), Peru (hi Victoria and Anna), and Germany (hi <a href=\"http:\/\/mausbearsnaehkiste.blogspot.com\/\">Steffi<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>There are a few mysterious ones like Switzerland and the one on the edge of Hudson&#8217;s Bay.
