Goat Lake, Waterton Lakes National Park

Heading northwest from the Red Rocks in Waterton Lakes National Park is one of my friend’s favourite hikes. Chris has done this hike six times and will likely do it several more times. Our family sets out late morning on July 7 with Chris and Christie for a 7 km hike (with an elevation gain … [Read more…]
Lake Malawi

The third largest lake in Africa, Lake Malawi forms an aquatic political divide between Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique. It is also one of the deepest lakes in the world. Wild African Animals

Prior to going to Africa, I had Amber’s blessing to buy a 300 mm zoom lens for my camera. Oh, I wish I had made a better effort to actually go and buy it. Anyway, I got these shots of animals in the iMfolozi-Hluhluwe Game Reserve in South Africa. Thanks to the Waldron family for … [Read more…]

The two of us drove out after supper on a Friday evening up a snowy Forestry Trunk Highway (40) leaving our children with our housemates. We were … [Read more…]
Crimson Lake: On Broken Trees and Galavanting Youth

In mid-July our family went camping at Crimson Lake Provincial Park. I invited Blaise to join me on a morning hike around the lake, a 10 km walk with zero elevation change. He was eager and I let him carry the compass and I carried the snacks, water, extra clothes, bug repellent, sun screen, and … [Read more…]
Banff – Lake Louise – Banff

It is remarkable how much I get out. Usually I am not the initiator for outings. My friends are great for inviting me to go out and enjoy things. This past weekend was terrific for that. One of my adventures was sparked by Shane who invited me to cycle in the mountains. I hadn’t ridden … [Read more…]
